Shannon currently serves on a number of local nonprofit boards has been involved in social justice, civil rights, advocacy, leadership and LGBT issues since 1996 through many nonprofit organizations. She operates as her own nonprofit management consulting company, Free Agent for Change, LLC with special emphasis on organizational development, strategic planning, board development and capacity building. She has presented at the Kentucky Bar Association on the “Nonprofit Board and the Lawyer” and teaches classes on nonprofit management and strategic planning, including for the United Way’s Get on Board program. She joined the KCCJ Board in 2006.
Before becoming involved with nonprofit management, Shannon spent fifteen years in the thoroughbred racehorse industry. She married her partner (a Lexmark engineer) in Massachusetts in 2004 and currently resides with their four dogs in Lexington, Kentucky. She and her partner are both avid outdoor rock climbers.
